Natural Healing Foods of Cycling Gods Past
with (sick) Graeme Street

"When you feel 'less than optimal', sick, or just plain miserable--look back to the past and find the natural foods and ancient remedies that cured the cycling gods of yesteryear. You may find them to be a little, 'stinky'--but hey, you shouldn't be around people when you're sick anyway."

Remedies of your own? Post them here!

Natural Food Remedy 1: Oil of Oregano

Man, get ready for a full body sensation when you try this stuff! WOW. It feels like it's literally chasing the sickness from your body it's so strong. But, I have to say I usually feel better (or at least improved) in just a few seconds. Yes, this is in supplement form. I guess you could eat a whole bunch of oregano--but yuk!!! I'd rather get it all done in one shot. Works great.

Here's a great resouce I found about Oil of Oregano

Natural Food Remedy 2: Fresh Garlic

Most of us know the powerful health benefits of garlic. If they can scare a vampire away, why not a cold, right? There's more too this one than just past down remedies and superstitions. Garlic is one of the most powerful natural food sources on the planet and one that is a proven immune booster. Eat it fresh and if you can eat it raw or slightly sautéed. Yes, you can get in pill form, but I have better luck with the real thing. You may be different.

Here's a great resouce I found about Garlic

Natural Food Remedy 3: Fresh Spinach

Yes, one of my Cyclo-FUEL 'Power Foods' and one that is great with the garlic and some olive oil from above. Spinach is one of the most nutrient dense foods you can eat and Popeye was right--why do you think he never took a sick day from kickin' Bluto's butt? Popeye fan or not, this power food packs a nutrient punch.

Here's a great resouce I found about Spinach and Immunity

Here's one of my POWER REMEDY RECIPES when I'm sick...

2 C raw spinach

2 TBSP Olive Oil

1-2 Garlic Cloves--Diced.

Salt & Pepper to Taste

1-2 Fresh Eggs

Add olive oil to hot pan and Sauté the garlic first for 20 seconds, then add in the spinach (rinsed first) and sauté for about 20 seconds only. DO NOT OVERCOOK! Then, plate the spinach and in the same pan, cook two eggs over easy. Salt and pepper to taste and plate and eat with the spinach.

Popeye eat your heart out!

BONUS TIP: 'Should I train when I'm sick?'

Good question. I get this one all the time in my consults or in the CLUB forums and my answer is always the same, 'only do what your body is ASKING to do.' Anything other than that and you are not honoring your body and allowing it to heal.

Sometimes my body asks to ride and I feel better. Other times, it feels terrible and even though I am supposed to ride, I pass on it in the hopes of getting better faster.

Either way, always remember that a sick body is one that must heal first before it can progress.
