Hotter N' Hell & 42 Minutes Faster!
by Platinum Member Mark Rowe

"Learn how one CLUB Member took over 42 minutes off his Hotter N' Hell Hundred, finished under 5 hours, completed all 5 passes of his Death Ride...all at over 50 years old and in the best cycling fitness of his life...so far!"

NOTE: I did not ask Mark to send this to me. These are his own words and statements about his growth as a cyclist and his use of the Cyclo-CLUB. Get motivated and enjoy!--Graeme

Dear Graeme and Fellow CLUB Members,

I never thought I would be writing a testimonial. But with my recent successes, I have to give credit where credit is due, and hope that this just might motivate one cyclist who has a desire to really improve their performance dramatically, but does not know what to do.

Before I go any further, I urge you to become a Platinum CLUB member like I did. After you read this you will understand why.

Here's my story.... I bought Cyclo Core and Cycle Zen (included in Platinum now) a couple years ago and I tried them out a few times. They were challenging but without a structured training program, it was hard to put it all together and so they sat idle. I put them away, continued riding and of course kept getting dropped by a group of accomplished riders. I finally reached a point where I knew that if I was going to improve that I could not just pedal harder to keep up with them. I decided I was not going to improve by doing the same thing. I had to get past the mentality of doing more miles.

What did it for me? I became a Platinum member and decided to follow more of a structured game plan instead of simply riding more. Which wasn't working! I used Graeme's consults and the Cyclo-CLUB Resources as tools to assist my goals.

Graeme, I hope this saves you some work on trying to come up with ad copy for the Platinum membership. It's worth ten times more than what you charge! So, I set a goal and signed up for the California Death Ride. I called you nine weeks before the ride for a consult and asked your advice on what training program to do. You suggested doing the 4 week hill climbing plan twice and using the one week recovery plan in between.

I downloaded the plan and also acquired Cyclo-SPEED (also available for platinum download) because the hill climbing program had some of the Cyclo Speed workouts in the training schedule.

I have to admit that at first I had no idea how some of the Cyclo Speed exercises were helping me but I know that my cycling improved measurably. The result was that I finished all five passes of the Death Ride and had a good surge of energy on the last pass. I did not really know how much the training helped me since it was the first time that I had done the Death Ride and I did not have a prior benchmark to measure my progress.

I decided to measure my training progress by setting an aggressive goal at the Hotter N Hell 100, a ride that I have done before. I only had five weeks to prepare for the ride so I followed the five week training schedule in the 14 week advanced in season training plan available to me here in the club. (NOTE: All training plans are available for download for platinum here--$700 worth!)

I set a goal to finish in 4h: 55m. I will let the results speak for themselves. I just finished the Hotter N Hell 100 in 4h: 49m a new PR for me and I beat my goal of 4:55. The best part though was my time was faster than my time last year by 42 minutes! I did this by training smarter, using your advice, using the club and riding fewer miles!

In addition to the training programs I have used a lot of the other great resources found in the club such as your advice on fueling. I have been using Hammer products but I fine tuned my fueling program by listening to your interview with Steve Born.

As a side note, I also used part of the club's 7 day fat-loss bootcamp principles to lose 5-10 pounds. Which has helped with everything.

I relaxed and recovered with the platinum home spa treatments and the myofascial release techniques. I used the club forums and received some good advice on adjusting my bike and I also bought a compact crank based on your review. I remember awhile back you asked what we were doing to change our cycling. Gosh, I believe I have changed just about everything, my training, my fueling, my diet, my bike, and my recovery.

All these changes were precipitated by being an active club member and USING the information you have made available for us.

I look forward to applying my training to a time trial coming up in November and I look forward to using your advice from today's consult to achieve my goals.

MY CONSULT RECOMMENDATIONS TO MARK FOR HIS 25 MILE TT:

I recommended for mark to begin with the 7 Day Climbing BOOTCAMP. I wanted him working with the techniques and a surge to his current fitness. Then the Platinum Home Spa Treatment so he could recover quicker to move forward. Then 2 weeks of Transition Plan Training to allow him to maintain and work with the breathing techniques of Cyclo-SECRETS. Then, finishing with the 5 Week Speed and Time Trial Plan. It's an uphill finish Time Trial and I want him to have the speed to get 1-2 mph faster than last year...and I know he will!;)

Here is something I want to leave with the rest of the members and those on the fence about joining the club. One of the most rewarding things I have done as a by product of my training is that I was able to help my neighbor Bill successfully complete his first century by sharing tips on fueling and riding smarter.

Now he is excited about doing more rides. Find another cyclist who wants to improve. Tell them about the club. Ride with them. Help them achieve their goals even if it means missing some rides where you normally hammer it out with the regulars. Graeme, thanks once again for your help and all the other club members who have helped me attain my goals. I couldn't have made these changes without being a member of the Cyclo-CLUB.

Best regards,

Mark Rowe, Platinum CLUB Member

Completing the Death Ride

P.S. to All Cyclists I just want to let you know that I am amazed by the depth of information in the training plans and the club info. It is just not about doing a physical workout but it is much more about an approach to training with proper mental preparation. I refer back to them often and gain new insights on a regular basis. My advice to anyone out there is to find a plan level that you are comfortable with and read it thoroughly. For me that is not easy because I like to jump right into things but I have found that after I have gone back and read it again I have gained a whole new appreciation and understanding of how the plans work.

The Cyclo-CLUB Formula for YOUR SUCCESS!

1. Pick a SPECIFIC GOAL. The more specific, the more powerful the CLUB becomes.

2. Plan your attack! Login to the CLUB and select the right TRAINING PLAN & Cyclo-CORE WORKOUTS to help you achieve that goal. We have many to choose from and proven results behind every single one of them.

3. ASK QUESTIONS! If you don't know what is best either a) GO PLATINUM and Consult with Graeme directly, or b) ask questions of other members in the forums.

4. Execute your plan and monitor your results. Have fun and keep yourself focused on the GOAL!

5. SHARE & GROW! Come back in the CLUB, share your success and mistakes! That's what this CLUB is all about.

6. Lastly, pick a NEW GOAL and start over again!

That's how simple it is my friend. That's what the Cyclo-CLUB is designed for.

Best,

Graeme Street
